How permitting works in Alabama

Cities in Alabama are the primary "Authorities Having Jurisdiction" (AHJ) for all construction within their municipal limits. If a city chooses to adopt a building code, its building department manages the entire lifecycle of the permit, from application intake to the final issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy.
