How Building Permits Work in Idaho

The state provides a "backstop" for permitting through the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL). In rural areas where counties or cities do not provide inspection services for specific trades (electrical, plumbing, or HVAC), the state acts as the direct permitting and inspection authority.
