Maine Building Permits

Towns >4k must enforce; others optional.

How Building Permits Work in Maine

The state provides a uniform code but limits its administrative role based on population. The state mandates that towns with more than 4,000 residents must enforce the code, but it does not provide state-level permitting services for smaller towns that choose not to have an inspector.
